Reliable accounting support so you can spend less time on paperwork and more time growing.
ATA Consulting Ltd provides professional bookkeeping, accounting support and business consultancy to small and growing businesses across the UK.
From VAT returns, payroll and bookkeeping to statutory accounts and financial reporting, we provide a comprehensive range of services tailored to your business needs.
We take the complexity out of managing your finances by providing accurate information, practical advice and dependable support. Our aim is to give you greater clarity over your finances, help you meet your financial obligations and provide the information you need to make confident business decisions.
You focus on running and growing your business — we'll take care of the numbers.
Clear, accurate financial reporting that gives you a true picture of your business — so every decision you make is backed by real numbers, not guesswork.
Day-to-day recording and reconciliation handled for you, keeping your books audit-ready and freeing up hours you'd otherwise lose to spreadsheets.
Wages, deductions, and statutory filings managed accurately and on time, every pay cycle — so your team gets paid right, and you stay compliant.
Eight core services, one point of contact — from day-to-day bookkeeping to long-term financial planning, handled with the same attention to detail throughout.
Tax rules change more often than most businesses can track. Our Tax Advice service keeps you ahead of them — identifying legitimate savings, flagging risk before it becomes a problem, and making sure every return reflects a strategy, not just a deadline.
We take care of your day-to-day bookkeeping and bank reconciliations, keeping your financial records accurate, up to date and ready when you need them. Whether it's preparing for VAT submissions, statutory accounts or business planning, we make sure your numbers are in order. Save time, reduce admin and spend more time focusing on your business.
Payroll touches everything from employee trust to HMRC compliance, and a single error can ripple through both. We manage wage calculations, deductions, and submissions with precision, so pay day is one less thing on your mind.
Self-Assessment has more triggers than most people realise — rental income, investment gains, side income over £1,000. We work out exactly what applies to you, file it correctly, and make sure you're claiming everything you're entitled to.
Good financial planning looks past this tax year. We help you map out retirement, investments, and long-term goals with a tax-efficient strategy behind them, and we revisit that plan regularly as your circumstances change.
Statutory accounts are a legal requirement — miss the deadline and you're looking at a fine of up to £1,500. We prepare them accurately and on time, and use management accounts along the way to show you what's actually driving performance.
Corporate governance and compliance obligations only grow as a company does. We handle the filings, records, and administrative detail that keep you on the right side of the Companies Act, so nothing slips through the cracks.
VAT errors are among the most common — and most costly — mistakes businesses make. From invoicing to return submissions, we manage the full VAT cycle so you avoid penalties, stay ready for HMRC scrutiny, and reclaim what you're owed.

General guidance based on current HMRC rules — every business is different, so always check with us before relying on these for your own return.
Professional fees are allowable when they're incurred wholly and exclusively for your business — this covers accountancy and bookkeeping fees, legal fees relating to business matters, and subscriptions to trade bodies or professional organisations on HMRC's approved list ("List 3"). Fines, penalties and purely personal or social membership costs don't qualify, even where the wider subscription does.
Yes. Everyday office costs like stationery, printing, postage and similar consumables are allowable, provided they're used for running the business. If you work from home and buy these items for mixed personal and business use, only the business proportion can be claimed.
Generally, no. HMRC treats gym membership as a personal benefit rather than a genuine business cost, even when it's paid through your limited company. If the company pays, it's usually taxed as a Benefit in Kind — you'll pay personal tax on the value, and the company may owe Class 1A National Insurance. The main exceptions are an on-site gym available to all staff, or where fitness is genuinely central to the business itself.
When you sell or scrap an asset that's had capital allowances claimed against it, the proceeds are set against the relevant capital allowances pool. If the pool balance is higher than the sale proceeds, you can claim a balancing allowance for the difference, reducing your taxable profit. If the proceeds are higher than the pool balance, the difference is taxed as a balancing charge instead. We handle these calculations as part of your annual accounts.
